Velo Valero and the Tower of the Americas / by Dan Baumer

Valero Energy has a long and proud history of community involvement, corporate responsibility and assisting other worthy organizations in their efforts to better the world.  Saturday, Jan 28th was no different.

Captained by Peter Ray, Team Velo Valero took part in the 32nd Annual Lone Star Cystic Fibrosis Tower Climb & Run! This mixed bag of Valero staff, significant others, friends, and partners joined together with hundreds of other locals to struggle their way up the 952 steps of the Tower of The Americas in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the battle against Cystic Fibrosis.

Altogether, the team and its partners raised $3715 for the cause.

In addition to being a great cause for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the tower climb was also a way to praise and honor our local firefighters.

Before the rest of the competitors could begin, these heroes started their own race to the top. Laden with over 60 pounds of firefighting gear and their full uniforms, many of these studs were at the top by the time the other racers were even in the tower.

Well done!

Throughout the morning, the team "selfied" their way through the event!

A quick look at the Velo Valero calendar will show the very busy 2017 that they've set for themselves. Training weekends, Tour de Cure races, and holiday rides dot the schedule for months ahead. The Playhouse San Antonio is pleased and proud to have had Valero as our presenting partner for All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 and are equally excited that they're with us for The Secret Garden as well. We look forward to seeing what other great things that our partners at Valero have in store for San Antonio and the world.

We live in a fantastic city and we're blessed to have fantastic patrons and partners.
